This workspace provides resources to assist individuals funded by NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD) in carrying out their SMD education and public outreach programs. Program leads and team members should login to post announcements and calendar events, share work in progress, and participate in group discussions. Information and documents that may be of interest to all, such as tips for getting involved in SMD education and public outreach and meeting notes, may be accessed without logging into the workspace. IGES 2012 Earth Day Photo and Essay Contest (Due May 11)

The IGES 2012 Earth Day Photo and Essay Contest has been announced! Students grades 5-8 may enter the contest by taking a photograph of something that is changing in their local environment. The photo should be taken between Monday, April 16 and Friday, April 27. Then, students will write a brief essay (400 words or less) that answers a series of questions on change in their photograph. Entries must be postmarked by May 11. First, second, and third place winners will receive a Visa gift card in the amounts of $150, $100, and $75, respectively.

Aquarius is Up and Running!

After a successful launch, Aquarius in now up and running! Aquarius will make NASA’s first space observations of the salinity at the ocean surface, a key variable in satellite studies of Earth. Launch of GLOBE Student Climate Research Campaign

On Sept. 12, The GLOBE Program launched the Student Climate Research Campaign. This campaign will engage students in measuring, investigating and understanding the climate system in their local communities and around the world. Students will learn about climate through foundational learning activities and intensive observing periods that will be implemented in GLOBE classrooms around the world from 2011-2013.
