Resource Guides for Astro 101 Instructors

These annotated guides are designed to highlight useful materials on the web and in print. The guides include a sampling of non-technical materials that instructors around the U.S. have been using and are likely to have access to. Items were selected based on their level of difficulty (Astro 101 level and below), the likelihood of their being easily available for a college audience, and their potential usefulness for teaching and learning.

Resource Guides are available at the ASP site: http://www.astrosociety.org/education/astronomy-resource-guides/

Update 5/30/2014: The Resource Guides have passed product review and are now available on NASA Wavelength

These slide sets are the pilot examples of a series of slide sets the NASA SMD E/PO Astrophysics Forum is developing to help Astro 101 instructors bring the latest NASA discoveries into their classrooms!

After considerable discussion during and following the Cosmos in the Classroom SIG on July 23, 2013, we have incorpoarted instructors' feedback on their needs.

  Cosmology Resource Guide

October 14, 2013 – 12:53 PM CDT

NASA missions, educational projects around the country, and cosmologists themselves have produced a wide range of materials that astronomy instructors (and their students) can use to learn about the latest developments in modern cosmology. This annotated guide is designed to highlight useful materials on the web and in print. It was…

  Exoplanet Resource Guide

October 11, 2013 – 4:18 PM CDT

The discovery and characterization of exoplanets is one of the most exciting and fast-changing areas in modern astronomical research. As a result, Astronomy 101 instructors have had trouble keeping up with the flow of new techniques, instruments and discoveries. To help, NASA missions, educational projects around the country, and scientists themselves have produced a wide range of materials that astronomy instructors (and their students) can use to learn about the latest developments.…
