AGU 2016 Call for GIFT presenters

It’s that time of year again – we’re inviting you to apply to share your work with educators at the annual Geophysical Information for Teachers (GIFT) Workshop at American Geophysical Union’s (AGU) Fall Meeting in San Francisco. The full-day workshop will be on December 12th and 13th. This year we will again offer each presenting team one free full-week registration to the AGU Fall Meeting, to be used by a member of the presenting team. Note that this comes in addition to free registration for all K-12 educators with credentials.
As many of you know, we have had very successful GIFT workshops at the Fall Meeting in recent years. The workshop, an AGU-National Earth Science Teachers Association (NESTA) collaboration, brings together a wonderful team of presenters spanning a range of topics which address AGU’s Science and Society and Education goals and objectives. Every year evaluations indicate that the GIFT workshops are very popular with participants and are a valuable way for AGU to make progress towards its goals.
We are excited to continue our close collaboration with NESTA to help make this 2016 fall workshop a reality. NESTA’s Executive Director, Dr. Carla McAuliffe, has again agreed to lead the planning effort, and she will work closely with AGU Education staff, other NESTA leaders, and the presenting teams to make this year’s workshop even more successful.
We are now soliciting proposals from scientist(s)/educator(s) presenter teams who are interested in providing topical presentations accompanied with a closely related hands-on activity or set of activities. Each selected team of presenters will have approximately 1.5 hours during one of the two workshop days to present their work to the educators. We encourage you to look at presentations and workshop materials from 2015 for inspiration. The application is live and due by August 31.
During the workshop we will also have Share-A-Thons over lunch. These are valuable opportunities for shorter presentations. If you wish to present at one of two lunchtime Share-A-Thons rather than during the 1.5-hour slot, please email GIFT@agu.org (note that one free meeting registration is available only to each team that presents during a 1.5-hour slot).
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions. We look forward to a very successful GIFT workshop in 2016 and hope to see you in San Francisco!
