Over 5400 people joined in celebrating the 49th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing at the Bowie Baysox baseball game on July 20th. Upon entry into the stadium, baseball goers were greeted with astronaut cutouts which they could take their pictures with. They were also able to explore a variety of other activities, including:

  • Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) and the Moon
  • Properties of meteorites and terrestrial rocks
  • Living in space - astronaut food
  • Citizen science with GLOBE Observer
  • Robotics (Satellite Servicing Projects Division)
  • Diversity of rockets with the NARHAMS Rocket Club
  • Water bottle rocket launches
  • Telescope viewing

This collaborative effort was led by LRO public engagement team members Staci Tiedeken and Nikki Whelley of the Solar System Exploration Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
