NESSP hosted 8 tribal teams to launch 4 high altitude balloons during the Solar Eclipse of Aug 21,2017. The teams were from Oregon, Washington and Idaho and included about 100 students. 4 other teams dropped out due to fire concerns. In addition to the balloon activities, NESSP hosted NASA STEM activities on Sunday for about 300 students and 300 residents (mostly Native American). During the eclipse event we hosted about 700 spectators (though the activities were only locally advertised - about half of these participants were non-residents). The students worked hard prior to the eclipse which enable them to get their payloads into totality at altitude and all payloads were successfully recovered.
