B. Retreat and ASP Meeting De-Brief C. Community Survey
D. Forum-Community Updates
A. NASA Updates (Steph Stockman)
Steph reported that a transition team has been convened to develop a plan for how SMD education will function in the future and that Donald James is the new Associate Administrator for Education. There is also a discussion underway to explore how monthly nuggets can be incorporated into the NASA SMD website. If nuggets are used in this way, it is important for the community to be diligent in ensuring that photo releases are signed by individuals featured in nugget photos prior to their submission.
Question
Based on your read of the transition team and the status of their planning, do you think community feedback is likely to be taken into consideration in the plan that’s proposed?
Answer
1
I would hope that what we will have is information for the community that we can send out to them once we know the path forward.
Question
How draft is the draft plan likely to be since you’re not taking any feedback until the draft is prepared?
Answer
I can’t answer that question.
Comment
I think the community hopes that there would be room for consideration of feedback on the draft plan that might actually make it better.
B. Retreat and ASP Meeting De-Brief (Bonnie Meinke, Greg Schultz, Denise Smith)
Bonnie presented a PowerPoint overview of the retreat held August 3 prior to the ASP meeting. The summary of the retreat is located at post 7214 on the workspace. Additionally, Bonnie reported that all the program templates can be found at post 7162 and that conversations begun at the retreat that continued at the ASP conference can continue online at post 7230.
Greg thinks the ASP meeting and retreat went very well. The ASP was very pleased with the NASA community’s involvement. It was great to have the retreat in conjunction with the conference; it benefited the conference very well and they got a lot of great feedback from attendees. The ASP has a post conference survey that 50+ people have responded to and it’s not to late to provide your input. If you can’t find the link or need Greg to send it to you, please let him know. He will send it to you, as the ASP is looking for input for next year and beyond.
Denise added that the information that was shared at the retreat will be shared back in more detail with SMD leadership. Likewise, the other Forums will be following up through their respective Division E/PO point of contact in SMD. Denise thanked community members for their contributions and encouraged them to take a look at the information that the team has posted on the workspace.
C. Community Survey (Denise Smith)
The Forum wants to periodically check in with community members to make sure we are meeting your needs and it’s time for us to do that again. We will be sending out a link to the community survey that is being put together by our external

evaluator, Allyson Walker of Cornerstone Evaluation. Please watch for an email from Mitch and thank you in advance for taking the time to fill it out so we can continue to meet your needs over the coming year.
D. Forum-Community Updates
2000th day of Kepler (Alan Gould)
Alan Gould reported that today is the 2000th day of Kepler being in space and encouraged the community to visit the Art of Discovery project. The project accepted artwork from professionals, non-professionals and students as part of a competition for what newly discovered planets might look like. More information can be found at http://keplerart.seti.org/winners.
Voyager anniversary (Jim Manning)
This is the anniversary of Voyager’s flight by Titan in 1984. It’s also the two-year anniversary of Voyager 1 reaching of interstellar space as defined by Voyager project scientist Dr. Ed Stone.
SMD Communication (Denise Smith)
We will continue to communicate with Stephanie Stockman and Kristen Erickson regarding the community’s desire to provide input on SMD’s path forward.
