Planetary Science Division Assistant for E/PO - Position Available

In support of the Year of the Solar System, up to two detailee positions are available in Planetary Science at NASA HQ. Each position is for a one-year effort, renewable, to assist the Planetary Science Division (PSD) staff, within the Science Mission Directorate, NASA HQ, to help with the coordination of Education and Public Outreach (E/PO) technical and scientific information for programs within the Division, including Mars. Effort will be in accordance with NASA and Science Mission Directorate (SMD) policies and procedures, specifically associated with integration of science discoveries and mission with:

1. PSD E/PO and other Forums; Centers; Institute; and program offices for traditional E/PO (Outcomes 1-4)
2. Year of the Solar System Events
3. Internal Communications: Back-up to PSD Technical Integration Specialist
4. New/emerging media trends/communications
5. Strategic partnerships

Primary Duties:
- Reports to the Assistant Director, Strategic Communications and Integration
- Lead for PSD E/PO peer-review processes
- Integrates PSD E/PO reporting and oversight
- Lead for special program projects as requested
- Serves as PSD backup point of contact (POC) to the SMD web council
- Performs technical writing and editing of Planetary Division white papers, reports and releases
- Prepares executive briefs and presentations
- Gathers metrics and produces presentations for senior management
- Assists in the coordination of efforts with SMD/PSD forums and public affairs

Skills Required:
- Excellent communications skills
- Excellent/Advanced PowerPoint, MS Word and Excel skills
- Experienced in conducting outreach to multiple audiences, including non-traditional audiences
- Knowledgeable in conducting NASA's educational processes/practices
- Has extensive knowledge of applicable industry and/or academic practices and standards, NASA policies and procedures, and government regulations
- Experienced in multimedia (preferred), including web analytics
- BA or BS Technical or Education Degree (preferred)

- Team player, able to work with multiple customers and peers inside and outside of organization
- Exercises discretion and independent judgment in evaluating potential approaches and solutions to critical problems and suggesting appropriate resolutions to supervisor
- Must be able to work on short deadlines
- Well-organized and analytical

Expectations:
- Paid detailee(Drunk can be civil servant (approximately GS 12/13/14) or contractor
- 40 hours per week/No AWS/Occasional telework
- Collocated in the Division, Occasional travel
